Cytat:
Exemption from Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax: driving a foreign registered motor vehicle in the Netherlands
Any Dutch resident with a private car, delivery vehicle or motorcycle not registered in the Netherlands who uses the Dutch public highway owes Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax. Any person who actually has the disposal of such motor vehicle must declare and pay these taxes. In many cases this is the driver of the vehicle in question.
If, however, you use the Dutch public highway for a short period of time, you may be exempt from having to pay Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax. The exemption is valid for two weeks, calculated from the moment you drive the vehicle on the Dutch public highway for the first time. The exemption is valid for you and your family members resident in the Netherlands or for an entity registered in the Netherlands (e.g. a business) that has the actual disposal of the motor vehicle. You must register for this exemption electronically before using the Dutch public highway.
The only way to do this is by using the programme exemption from Private Motor Vehicle Tax and Motorcycle Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax. You can file this electronic registration yourself. However, any other party can do so as well, such as the rental or lease company in question or a family member. The registration form does not have to be signed.
Note!
You can only be given the exemption for a single period of 2 weeks in any 1 year for any particular motor vehicle.
If following the period of two weeks you continue using the motor vehicle in the Netherlands, the Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax due on it must be declared and paid before this period ends. In that case the exemption ceases to have effect and both taxes are due from the stated commencement date of the exemption.
